If you live in Burlingame, you understand that there are many appealing aspects about this quaint, gorgeous area, including a low crime rate, beautiful weather and several local shops and restaurants that support the community. Located in San Mateo County, Burlingame is a narrow area between the Highway 101 and the mountain foothills of Silicon Valley. Close to San Francisco and Silicon Valley, it’s easy to understand why so many people love living in this area. The city was originally settled by wealthy residents of San Francisco, including namesake diplomat Anson Burlingame. They were looking for better weather and a place for a second home. A number of neighborhoods in Burlingame sprung up as a result of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Many families left San Francisco for Burlingame, and that gave rise to neighborhoods in the city including Burlingame Terrace and Burlingame Village. Burlingame is extremely pedestrian-friendly, and there are usually plenty of shops, bakeries, markets and parks that are easily accessible on foot. There are plenty of things to do here, such as Go Kart racing and badminton. There also is a bicycle course called the Bay Trail, which is just on the other side of Highway 101. You can ride down from Coyote Point to Foster City and around the beautiful Redwood Shores.

It is illegal to cut down trees in Burlingame. Burlingame is often referred to as the “City of Trees” thanks to the gorgeous greenery around the city, about 18,000 trees! The Board of Trustees in 1908 prohibited any cutting, injuring or destroying of any trees.

Burlingame Business Community

The top employers in Burlingame are Virgin America, United Natural Foods, Critchfield Mechanical and the California Teachers Association. With 19 preschools, five public elementary schools, one intermediate and one high school, this city is easily one of the best in California to raise a family.

The Burlingame Neighborhood Network is an organization in Burlingame that prepares families and residents of Burlingame for disasters. This organization assembles emergency kits and offers many free events where key speakers explain the importance of having a family evacuation plan, give insight on maintaining a safe water supply and offer tips on how to conserve energy. The Network collaborates with Burlingame’s crime prevention and disaster preparedness personnel to arrange activities for residents.
