Burlingame Day Trips

Burlingame is located in San Mateo County in beautiful Northern California. It is one of the most desirable cities within the Bay Area to call home. This charming city is filled with mom-and-pop stores, small businesses, community events and unique, beautiful architecture.

Burlingame, California weekend getaways are perfect for anyone who also wants getaway to San Francisco while still enjoying the slower pace of Burlingame. Many who visit San Francisco take Burlingame day trips to enjoy the warmer weather and slower, more relaxed pace for their vacation. However, it is ideal to stay in Burlingame and take day trips to surrounding cities. It is less expensive than actually staying in San Francisco, and you can still enjoy all of the perks of the city!

Visiting San Francisco is a must for anyone who loves city culture, great seafood, historical sites and world-class art. You can catch a street show at Fisherman’s Wharf by one of their many local entertainers, snag a sourdough bread bowl of fresh clam chowder and stroll along Pier 39, visiting the many boutiques and shops. Make sure to walk down the famous, crooked Lombard Street, visit Chinatown and The Palace of Fine Arts. Grab some hot cocoa and walk around the Palace of Fine Arts at night to enjoy the dramatic lights! There is even an Exploratorium just around the corner of the Palace.

Oakland is only 25 miles northeast of Burlingame and situated directly across the bay from San Francisco. The Oakland Museum of California displays many exhibits that actually recreate “environments” and are much more engaging than other displays you will see in museums. They feature interactive displays in art, history and nature that are perfect for the entire family. You can also visit the Oakland Zoo or catch a show at the unique, classic theatre, The Paramount.

Located only 60 miles north of Burlingame is the beautiful Sonoma Valley, famously known for its successful and vast wine industry. Whether you feel like strolling along Sonoma Creek, visiting wineries or riding on the Sonoma TrainTown Railroad with your little ones—you will find no shortage of activities! Sonoma holds many festivals that celebrate the community, its culture and foods throughout the year. You may want to take your family to the annual Olive Festival, which is held through January and February every year. This two-month festival celebrates everything about the olive, featuring many olive-tasting events, olive-scrub spa days and olive-oil making presentations to the public.

Located 170 miles northwest of Burlingame is Mendocino, a small, charming city that offers visitors absolutely stunning views of the Pacific, colossal Redwood trees and unique coastal villages. You can admire local and national art pieces at the Mendocino Art Center, a fantastic center for the Mendocino art community to enjoy ceramics, sculpting, pottery, jewelry and much more. The Temple of Kwan Tai and the Mendocino Presbyterian Church have been around since the 1850s and are two of the oldest historical sites in Mendocino. Take your camera to the Mendocino Bay Overlook, an impressive and underrated spot just south of the Big River that allows you to see all of Mendocino.
