Burlingame is home to more than 6,000 school-age children, as well as many younger children who attend preschool and adults who attend college. Burlingame schools are ran by the Burlingame, California School District, which consists of five elementary schools and a middle school. The San Mateo Union High School District operates a total of seven high schools, including the one public high school within Burlingame’s city limits. Not including preschools, the town hosts seven Burlingame, CA public schools, two Catholic elementary schools and one Catholic preparatory school. The Burlingame School District is also currently working on the opening of Hoover Elementary school as a sixth elementary school site.
All of Burlingame’s public schools have high ratings according to California’s Academic Performance Index (API), with rankings between 7 and 10 on a 10 point scale. The index determines a school’s performance based mainly on students’ CST and CAHSEE scores.
